A Bit of My Instrument Collection

This I'm putting up here to help out Alex and John for their musical project, but if anyone else wants to browse than feel free. I've included pictures and sound samples (which are at the bottom of the page), for your wonderful enjoyment.

The Collection

Kazoo
Don't know if this would be useful, but all you have to do is hum into it.

 Castanet Machine
It's like playing the castanets, with none of the grueling training.

Spoon Thing (?)
Yeah, not sure what this is

A Drum
I got this at a Native American reservation in Florida!

Rattle
My mom bought this at the Met. Not very useful, but it's really pretty!

Thunder Tube
Sounds like thunder and lightning.

Wooden Frog
Sounds kind of like a frog. I guess. Got this at a New York City street fair.

Guiro (?)
I think that's what it's called, but don't quote me on it

Bigger Guiro
For a deeper sound I suppose.

Tambourine
This one's actually quite nice

Shell Rattle
Or maybe it's nut shells? Who knows.

Rain Rattle (?)
It kind of sounds like rain.

A Small Drum
Yeah.

Mini Congos
For transportability.

Shekeres
The beads and shells give it different sound textures

Double Ended Drum (?)
For double the fun!

 Bell Stick
In case you need to imitate a dog's leash.

?????
Think this could go for the Met?

Hand Cymbals
Sorry, I could only find one.

Asian Jaw Harps

 Generic Jaw Harp

More Asian Jaw Harps
The one on the left is a Kouxian. It has 4 pitches and it sounds like a synthesizer.
The one on the right is a Dan Moi. It's Vietnamese.

How some of these sound

Percussion Samples by Ellen Cooper

I didn't get a sound sample of all of the instruments, but hopefully I got a bunch of the main ones.

Most of these are probably useless, but if anyone has any interest in a particular instrument then let me know!
